Female Lawyers protests against rape.

Female lawyers on Thursday protested the increased cases of rape, sexual abuses and other gender-based crimes against women and girls in the country.

The lawyers under the aegis of the African Women Lawyers Association of Nigeria, AWLA, marched through major streets in Deltate to register their grievances. They also bore placards with inscriptions calling for an end to the culture of rape and violence against women. They urged the government at all levels to device a means of ending the alarming increase in rape cases.

The group also vowed to play its role as legal practitioners in checking the increase. The first(1st) Vice President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Mr. John Aikpokpo-Martins Esq and the Delta State Coordinator, African Women Lawyers Association, Mrs. Megbele Ogechi in her call condemned rape in its entirety.
